(Pilipino) Other Names: Wrinkled Hornbill, Writhed-billed Hornbill Habitat/Distribution: Guimaras (though likely to be extinct), low population levels in Negros and Panay Habitat / Behavior: males -L 31", females - L27"; Noisy, and conspicuous in pairs or in small groups, in forest canopy but may be seen in tree clearings upto 1000 m. Does fly above the canopy but may be seen gliding alternating with flapping flight, crossing valleys. Nesting occurs from March to May with female enclosed in the cavity during incubation, and male providing sustenance. Apparently 3 eggs are laid and 3 young reared, the parents caring for their fledgelings until July.
Call is a loud stuttering au-au-au-auk lasting for about 0.5
sec repeated at 1 sec intervals up to 11 or 12 times (THF & RSK: J.
