| Common Names: Siloy (Visayas) Discoverer: Steere,1910 Category: ENDANGERED Status: Endemic Habitat/Distribution: Cebu Habitat / Behavior: Male is about 8" and the female is a bit smaller then he; Stays near the ground; gives out a melodiuos song regularly at dawn or at dusk but is shy and stays close to the ground concealed in dense thickets. This songbird used to live in natural forests in Cebu, it managed to survive by adapting to a hostile environment, living in bamboo thickets and second growth forest. Threats: Habitat loss due to clearance and development Interesting Information: Black Shama, locally called Siloy, is an eight-inch songbird that was thought to be extinct like most of the other species and sub-species that are endemic to Cebu only. This bird was declared as the Municipal Bird of Consolacion, Cebu.
