, kuwago, bahaw, Botbot Kuwaw (Pilipino) Discoverer: Tweeddale 1887 Category: RARE Habitat/Distribution: Forest edge or secondary growth below 1,000m (DuPont). Usually found in sub-montane mossy forest, and mized pine and rain forest above 1000m, but has been recorded until down 350m. Fairly tame, often perches in understory, can be appraoched wuite closely. (Kennedy et al, 2000). (Monotypic) - Luzon (known from the provinces of Aurora, Benguet, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Mountain, Nueva Ecija and Zambales). Habitat / Behavior: 23-28cm. Inhabit canopy and midstorey; seen and singly or in mixed flocks (DuPont). L 7" the male is a little bit smaller then the female; Call a loud far-carrying 2-syllable whistle wo-woww lasting about 1 second and repeated about 10 times per minute. Often 2 birds would be heard calling, answering one another (RSK: S. Harrap recording). Also a 2-syllable whoo whoo-hoo (THF: T. Fisher field notes) Birds in breeding condition recorded February and March, 3 nestlings found in May in a tree cavity nest made by a woodpecker. Eggs undescribed.
