Luzon Red Start  (Rhysacornis bicolor)

Habitat/Distribution: Irisan, Benguet (Luzon)
Habitat / Behavior: L 5 3/4"; Perches on rocks along clear , undisturbed mountain streams above 300m often in small family groups foraging for insects and other invertibrates at the edge of the water. Usually territorial with each pair defending about 100-200m of river. Shivers or bounces tail. Recent fledgling found in May.

Call is a very lud seep repeated 1 sec intervals given especially when disturbed or in flight between rock perches (RSK: R. Kennedy recording)
Threats: Pollution and siltation due to mining and logging
