Comments: Type specimens collected from Lumbatan and Dansalan, Lake Lanao
in 1932 (Ref. 280). Escudero et al. (Ref. 10885) reported that juveniles
and mature individuals are found in all months of their sampling; with spawning
peak between October and March. Roughly compose 50% of monthly catch of local
fishermen from Feb. 1974 to June 1977. Caught by means of libut, operated
like a purse seine and fishing is limited to the southern part of the lake.
In 1980, still the most abundant species sold daily at Marawi City at relatively
cheap price (Ref. 10885). Recorded in a 1982 survey (Ref. 12758). According
to a 1990-91 market survey, sirang still ranked third among the lake's finfishes,
where fishery is concentrated in the deeper portion, still at the southern
part of the lake. An average of 5 to 10 kg of fish (P300-600) are taken in
a night's
operation (Ref. 13448). A number of samples were caught during the 1994
expedition on the northeastern shore of the lake, from a 10-12 m wide stream
with brown-colored waters (Ref. 10888). |
