Discoverer: Lesson, 1831 Category: VULNERABLE Status: Endemic Habitat/Distribution: Primary lowland and forests restricted to the island of Palawan. Habitat / Behavior: A ground bird that feeds on a variety of fruits, seeds and insects. The typical call is a large harsh, raspy single note repeated every few seconds. The male has a long blue crest and white ear-patches and eyebrow, a black head, undebody and flight feathers. The mantle and wing-coverts are metallic blue; the back, rump and tail are black with fine gold specks, and the tail has 2 rows of blue ocelli bordered by black and grey. The female is brown but retains the blue ocelli on the tail area. The call is a harsh, raspy screech auuukk, kcratt, krotch and a ka-reeeetch.
