Description:  TL 1,500-1665mm; Large, heavy and compact body; limbs relatively short, stout, thumb pointing backwards; nose long but not extending beyond upper lip; nostrils opening downwards and are not at the end of the nose; eyes surrounded by permanent boney ridges, ears naked and pointed; cheek pouches large; large callosites (hairless parts of body with callouses), general color is mummy brown. ankles, feet and hands black.
Habitat: Can be found from seacoast to about 1,000m in elevation. Moves in bands of varying sizes. The members in band number from 6 to 12 or larger. Can be found all over the Philippines.

Interesting Information:  Is a very good source of food by people in the rural areas. At one time large numbers of the macaque were exported to the USA and used in the preparation of Sal Vaccine. They were used as experimental lab animals. Macaques make good and intelligent pets.
