Hazel's Forest Frog Platymantis hazelae (Taylor)
Common Names: palaka
Category: CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
Status: Endemic and rare
Habitat/Distribution: Negros and  Masbate Islands
Habitat / Behavior: A medium-sized to large Platymantis with tips of fingers and toes dilated into disks, those of fingers slightly broader. No arcolations in groin region and hind limbs. No horn on upper eyelid is seen. Microhabitats are arboreal ferns and leaf axils of screw pines above the ground. Lays 5-9 large, unpigmented eggs that develop directly into little frogs. Development time is 49+ days. Altitudinal distribution is from 250-600 to 1,200 m in lowland and lower montane forest.
Threats: Habitat loss due to progressive harvesting of the forest trees.
