| Common Names: kuwago (pilipino) Discoverer: 1Sharpe 1875 Category: VULNERABLE Habitat/Distribution: Luzon, Catanduanes, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao (WCSP, 1997); Range: 2 races - philippinensis: Catanduanes and Luzon, mindanensis: Bohol(Brooks and Dutson 1997), Leyte, Mindanao and Samar (Kennedy et al. 2000) Habitat / Behavior: Raptorial; seen perched near riverine systems at dusk (WCSP, 1997); L 20" and the female maybe larger then the male. (Kennedy et al. 2000) Apparently has many calls but has been poorly documented. A captive bird gave a single aheeehhh or eehhh repeated every 3 or 4 seconds (RSK: R. Kennedy recording). In the wild, a call consisted of a series of rapid, deep, resonating hoo-hoo-hoo at 3 to 4 syklables per sec continued over 10 to 15 sec (RSK: R. recordist unknown).
